I have always been into sports.
It’s something I genuinely love and has always been a big part of my life.
I remember ever since kindergarten, I used to jump around like a little monkey all the time.
Once on holiday with my grandparents, during one of my many acrobatic experiences, I fell over and hit my head.
This was at my favourite place in the entire world: Alentejo.
Alentejo is a region in Portugal between Lisbon and the Algarve. It was such a remote location that there wasn’t a hospital nearby so I couldn’t receive stitches. They sort of “glued” my skin and I still have the scar on my forehead.
Growing up, I did all sorts of activities.
Gymnastics, ballet, karate, running, Yôga, swimming and more recently Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which I unfortunately I had to let go, due to continuous back problems, caused by the epidural when my daughter was born and also sports injuries.
About two years ago, a friend of mine from the United States invited me for a 5-day free challenge group she was hosting online.
I had no idea what it was or how that worked so I asked a few questions. Ended up thinking that it was a pretty cool concept and the accountability was something I was lacking so I have been wanting to join her ever since.
However, this was only available in the US and Canada at the time so although I did the nutrition side of the challenge, the workouts were not available.
Just over one month ago, I found out that Beachbody is expanding to the UK and the official launch date is on the 19th of October – so only 9 days away!
Of course I wanted to know all the nitty-gritty so I started my research and found a lot of information which helped me even more making my decision whether I’d like to join them or not.
You can make a business out of working out.
I’ll be honest here. I have always been very sceptical of stuff like this. Usually I associate working from home opportunities as something to sell make-up, or make parties for people or having to beg people to buy stuff off you and that’s just not me at all. With this opportunity, what some might think as a sale, I see it as health and fitness choice and a normal continuation of a conversation.
Me and loads of people I know, either do some of physical activity and/or have healthy food habits. So if I am looking for a recommendation on something they’re using, chances are, I’ll ask them directly. So if I’m happy with the workout programs and nutrition options they offer, of course I will recommend them.
It’s all about health and fitness.
I’m already doing this on my social media anyway so it’s not a huge change in that regard.

I have seen so many people posting online about how much they love their shakes. First of all, allow me to clarify that this not a protein shake and it’s not a meal replacement.
This is made with superfood ingredients. It’s designed to give our body the minerals, vitamins and nutrients that we all need in order to function properly.
I’m most definitely not the most adventurous person when it comes to food, so I know that for me, I’m probably lacking some needed goodies.
Firsly, because I don’t eat them. Secondly, because the food industry nowadays has become a business which is creating a health epidemic. Basically, the quality of the food we eat today is most definitely not the same quality as out grandparents used to have and that is easily proven because of their flavour and the fact that most food doesn’t rot…

She wanted something that people could rely on and that’s how the nutrition part of the company was born to complement the workouts.
I want to be healthier and more fit.
I sustained an injury whilst doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and that was a huge set back for me and I’ve put on a lot of weight. When I say a lot, I REALLY mean a lot.
I gained 15Kg because I was unable to work out. As I said on a previous post, working out keeps me emotionally balanced due to the effects of the endorphins.
Leo Widrich, a blogger, put it nicely when he explained what happens in our brain when we workout.
“When we workout the brain recognises this as a moment of stress. As your heart pressure increases, the brain thinks you are either fighting the enemy or fleeing from it. To protect yourself and your brain from stress, you release a protein called BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor). This BDNF has a protective and also reparative element to your memory neurons and acts as a reset switch. That’s why we often feel so at ease and things are clear after exercising and eventually happy.
At the same time, endorphins, another chemical to fight stress, is released in your brain. Your endorphins main purpose is this writes researcher McGovern:
“These endorphins tend to minimize the discomfort of exercise, block the feeling of pain and are even associated with a feeling of euphoria.”
Overall, there is a lot going on inside our brain and it is in fact oftentimes a lot more active than when we are just sitting down or actually concentrating mentally:
So, BDNF and endorphins are the reasons exercise makes us feel so good.The somewhat scary part is that they have a very similar and addictive behaviourlike morphine, heroine or nicotine. The only difference? Well, it’s actuallygood for us.”
So I made a choice.
I registered for the free-trial that gave me full access to the workouts and nutrition plans to see if it was something I would actually use.
I though “If I can get back in shape, get healthier and do that with friends, family and get to know new people, why not?”
So I decided to go ahead and become a Coach too. That’s why I’m writing about it. Because it’s a positive change.
