Sunshine
When I wrote my ‘six months’ post after moving to the UK, nearly 10 years ago, I was excited about the future. I had hopes, dreams and aspirations. For the first time in a very long time, I felt happy. This new chapter was exciting and full of possibilities. I felt at peace. Weirdly, the minute that plane landed, my heart was at peace, the tears dried up and I felt that I was exactly where I needed to be. To where God had led me. One thing I didn’t consider was that, although life felt slightly surreal because wherever I looked made me feel like I was inside a…

Coronavirus who?
It seems to be official. The world has officially gone bonkers over the Coronavirus. What was first reported as a “common-like cold”, now appears to have escalated into a world crisis. The stock markets had their steepest falls since the 2008 recession, people are panic buying and stocking up on medicines and canned food. And let’s not forget the amusing supermarket fights videos over toilet paper. Lord, have mercy. If you have Facebook, your wall probably looks rather similar to mine, nowadays. Every other post is about the coronavirus, what the Government isn’t doing and should be doing, what people in general are doing… It’s madness and it’s everywhere. Everyone…

Dare to dream
I want you to DREAM. I want 2020 to be the turn of a page for you, to be the start of a brand new chapter in your life. You can’t turn back time. No one can, so whatever mistakes you made, stop dwelling on them because there is no point in crying over spilled milk. Recognise your error, make your peace with it, learn from it and move on. Whatever person you’re holding on to that doesn’t give you the RESPECT and love you so much DESERVE, drop them. You don’t need them. We all have goals we want to achieve but the only way to make sure your…

The 21 day challenge
No one wakes up one morning and casually decides to go run a marathon. “See you later babe.” “Where you off to?” “Oh, just run a marathon. I’ll be back in time for lunch. See you later.” “Ok bye babe. Have fun.” “Love you.” “Love you.” Does this sound like a completely and utterly ridiculous conversation, not to mention, extremely unlikely? Yes. Yes, it does. And you know why? Because in the realm of things that can actually happen, this, friends, is probably not one of them. You can most certainly wake up one morning and decide that you want to start training to run a…

Motherhood Unshielded or Unshielded Motherhood?
The truth is, I did not love my daughter the moment I first saw her. Shockingly brutal statement? Perhaps. But it’s my truth. You know when everyone around tells you – as an expectant Mother – how much you will fall in love with your baby THE MINUTE you see them and hold them in your arms? What a load of bollocks. For me anyway, because it didn’t felt like that. Even worse, I felt nothing. Motherhood did not came easy or naturally for me and the whole world made me feel less of a Mum because of it. For that reason, I carry that burden with me until…

Motherhood
Things have been challenging lately. Diana has finally moved in with me. After a 5 year wait, I finally have my baby back. Adjusting to our new life together hasn’t been without difficulties on both sides. I went from being responsible only for myself to having to adjust to being effectively a “new mother” for the second time to the same child. And not to a new-born, but to a 9-year old on a full-time basis with no family around to help. Diana had to adjust to a different household and a new country. Lately, I’ve been feeling a bit low and feeling that I’m failing as parent because…

When a stranger is a friend
I must have one of those faces that people look at me and know I can keep a secret. Which is actually true. I can and I do, especially when it comes to my friends. This year I went back home to Portugal for Christmas and returned on the 31st. It was 11:58pm when I walked in through the front door. On the plane, I was sat next to a man who started talking to me. He had one of those bubbly personalities and was actually making me laugh. As a nervous flyer, the distraction was greatly appreciated and welcomed. My daughter was sitting by the…

Tu
